John Coughlin and Jim Myers started Coughlin Construction in 1975 with a backhoe and an eye toward the future. Heavy/Municipal construction has been the main stay over the years with specialties in pipe laying, excavation, and underground tank work. Since the early 1980’s the company has also performed many government contracts with Minot Air Force base, Grand Forks Air Force Base, FE Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Coughlin Construction has also been a prime contractor for North Dakota Department of Transportation projects including the South Broadway reconstruction in Minot, the 16th Street Underpass in Minot and a section of the Northwest Area Water Supply project. The company has in the past ten years expanded into building single-family houses, condominiums, multi-family buildings and building and remodeling of commercial buildings in North Dakota and Colorado. Land development has become an important part of the business with projects such as mobile home parks, single family neighborhoods, industrial parks and apartment complexes.
